Organic Farming

Organic farming is a method of farming that uses no pesticides, harsh chemicals, or bad fertilizers. It also means more human labor instead of machines used to plant and harvest the crops. Many benefits include saving energy, less soil erosion, and more.

Organic farming began in 1940 as a reaction to the growing popularity of synthetic fertilizers. Organic farming was never popular because the pesticide alternative was cheaper and easier to apply and maintain. Another factor is that it was very easy to ship, even though one of the benefits of organic farming is that there is nothing to ship. Organic farming started becoming popular in the 1990's when global warming was first discovered. Many natural pesticides and natural fertilizers were made that just squeeze by the standards for organic farming even though no pesticides and compost are better alternatives.

There are many benefits of organic farming, most of them are benefits to the environment. First off, the fact that there are no pesticides makes food safer and healthier for people to eat, you also don't need to wash it before you eat it (but it's still recommended). Another benefit of no pesticides is that you don't have to worry about wasting space shipping loads of pesticides. A benefit of no bad fertilizers is that there is less soil erosion, which is especially important to preserve ground fidelity of if you're growing close to water. More human labor has many benefits, you can never be machine-free, but less means that there are less fuel emissions, less money spent of buying equipment, and a smaller cost of maintaining them.

Buying organic isn't just the only thing we can do to help the environment and stay healthier. We can buy local, food grown close to home requires less gas to transport and stays fresher. We can also get food with no junk, if the strawberries in a strawberry bar are organic but the bar has junk like red 40, you shouldn't get it.

In conclusion, buying organic is worth the extra money. It helps the environment and your health. Gandhi once said that "you must be the change you wish to see in the world." If the change you want to see is for the world to be greener, buying organic would help.
